BEHIND THE SCENES: WFCA ANNUAL CLINIC

One of the highlights of my clinic tour over the past four years has been my time at the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association annual spring clinic in Madison. It’s become a staple stop for me each year, and quite honestly, one I look forward to as much as any event on my schedule.

Why? That’s easy.

It starts with the people.

I get the opportunity to spend time with Hall of Fame coach Joe Labuda and his son Jace. Coach Labuda is a legend in the state of Wisconsin, and you don’t need a résumé to prove it, you just have to stand near our booth for about five minutes. The number of coaches who stop by to shake his hand, pay their respects, and talk ball tells you everything you need to know about the impact he’s had. That kind of presence isn’t built overnight. That’s decades of doing things the right way.

Jace, on the other hand, represents the next generation, and he’s been outstanding in his role as a territory manager. It’s always a great feeling to see how many programs across the state are flying the Dynamic Fitness & Strength banner. That tells me we’re not just selling equipment; we’re building relationships and supporting programs that are doing it the right way.

This year’s event was another strong one for us, but the highlight was clear.

We unveiled the new custom Badger Rack built specifically for the Wisconsin Badgers football. This wasn’t just a product reveal, it was a hands-on, coach-driven evaluation. Brady Collins and his entire strength staff were there, putting it through the test, giving feedback, and working through the accessory add-ons in real time. That’s the environment you want, coaches in the trenches, evaluating what actually works.

To say they were pleased would be underselling it.

And that’s always the goal, build something that holds up in a real weight room, not just on paper.

The clinic itself continues to set a high standard. The WFCA committee does an outstanding job organizing the entire event from start to finish. It kicks off Thursday evening and rolls straight through Friday with a lineup of quality speakers who bring real, applicable information. The final piece is what really separates this clinic—presentations from the Wisconsin Badgers football coaching staff, including head coach Luke Fickell.

That’s high-level ball, straight from the source.

And then they take it one step further.

The clinic wraps up with an open invitation for attendees to watch Saturday practice on campus. That’s a rare opportunity. You’re not just hearing it, you’re seeing it applied in real time.

I’m not sure what the attendance guidelines are year to year, but if you’re in the surrounding states and you love football, this is one you should seriously consider adding to your calendar.

From my perspective, it’s more than just a clinic stop.

Its time spent with great coaches, great people, and a reminder of what this profession is all about.
